WHAT HERDBOOK DOES

Every animal, remembered.

Seven things HerdBook does today, a handful coming next, and one price for all of it.

FEATURE 01

A profile for every animal.

Every cow, calf, bull, and heifer gets a page — not a row. Names, tag numbers, breed, gender, birth date, color and markings. Photos from the day you brought them home to today. Notes for anything that doesn't fit a field. Documents attached where you used to keep a manila folder: registration papers, bills of sale, vet records. When you tap an animal, you see the animal — not a spreadsheet cell.

Also includesStatus lifecycle (Available, Pending, Sold, Breeding, Deceased) · notes and documents per animal · filter and search across the whole herd · CSV and JSON export of any animal at any time.

→ See a real animal profile
FEATURE 02

Lineage you can see.

Dam and sire are relationships, not fields. Tap into a cow's mother and you're on her mother's page — with her photos, her health record, her own lineage above her. Cross-generational visibility, shown as a visual family tree rather than a spreadsheet lookup. When you sell an animal, the buyer walks away with the whole documented chain — not a claim, a record.

Also includesAuto-populated genetic markers · dam-sire history across generations · lineage visible on the public animal profile.

FEATURE 03

Health, tracked as it happens.

Vaccinations, treatments, and weights recorded per animal — timestamped, searchable, and attached to the animal for life. When you're running a whole pasture through a chute for a vaccination round, the batch tool lets you pick the pasture, pick the vaccine, and log every animal in one pass. No spreadsheet to reconcile after the round.

Also includesPer-animal vaccination and treatment history · whole-pasture vaccination rounds · weight tracking · batch entry for group events.

FEATURE 04

Where every animal has been.

Pastures set up once. Move an animal — or a whole group at a time — and every move is logged automatically. Occupancy history is queryable, so when you need to reconstruct which bull was with which cows six months back, or which pasture a calf was actually born in, the answer is a tap away instead of a memory test.

Also includesPasture inventory · batch moves · per-pasture rosters · full move audit log per animal.

FEATURE 05

Built for the field.

A web app that works on any phone or tablet — no download, no App Store install. Photo-first entry designed for one hand while the other is on a fencepost or a gate. Runs in any mobile browser, so the youngest ranch hand's Android and the oldest owner's iPhone use the same HerdBook.

Also includesMobile-tuned interface · camera integration · works on iOS and Android without an app install.

Offline field capture

Photos, status changes, and pasture moves queued locally and synced when you're back in service. Next thing shipping.

FEATURE 06

Share what you've built.

Every animal has a public, beautifully-rendered profile page you can share with a buyer, on social, or in a text message. You control what's public, per ranch and per animal. When you sell, the documented history travels with the animal — the buyer gets the whole story attached, not a claim to trust.

Also includesPublic animal profile pages · public ranch page · link preview cards for social sharing · per-ranch and per-animal privacy controls.

FEATURE 07

Your team, your data.

Invite ranch hands, family, and business partners with three roles: owner, admin, and member. Everyone works from the same herd; nobody sees another ranch's data. Full CSV and JSON export any time — your data is yours to move, back up, or archive. Encrypted storage, isolated per ranch at the database layer.

Also includesOwner / admin / member roles · unlimited team seats included · per-ranch data isolation · CSV and JSON export on demand · encrypted storage.

THE ROLLUP

A ranch overview at a glance.

A dashboard with herd counts by status, breed, and pasture. A ranch notes log for anything that isn't tied to a specific animal — the operational memory of the place. A document library for the ranch's own paperwork: certifications, breeder association records, insurance, receipts.

ON THE HORIZON

Coming next.

All coming to every subscriber as they ship. No upcharges, no tiers.

Offline field capture

Photos, status changes, and pasture moves queued locally and synced when you're back in service. The next thing shipping — the foundation the AI features get built on top of.

Ask your herd

Natural-language questions across your full herd record. "Who's the father of Honey's calf?" or "Which cows haven't been vaccinated this year?" — answered by the records you already keep.

What to do this weekend

Predictive operational guidance grounded in your ranch's cadence and the current state of the herd. Breeding windows, weaning schedules, vaccination timing — surfaced when they matter, not tucked in a calendar you forgot to check.

Snap and identify

A photo of an animal, matched to your herd. Made possible by HerdBook's photo-first data structure — every profile becomes training data your ranch alone benefits from.

QUESTIONS

Common questions

What is cattle herd management software?

It's the record system a ranch uses in place of a notebook or spreadsheet — animals, lineage, health and vaccination history, pasture moves, and weights, kept in one place and searchable. HerdBook is photo-first, so every record is anchored to a picture of the animal instead of a tag number alone.

Can I import my existing herd records into HerdBook?

Yes. HerdBook imports CSV and spreadsheet files, and the mapping step lets you match your columns to animals, lineage, acquisition, and registration fields. Sire and dam tags are matched back to animals already in your herd, and any leftover columns can be brought in as custom fields after the import.

Does HerdBook track lineage and family trees?

Yes. Each animal profile links to its dam and sire, and the offspring show up on the parents' profiles automatically. For registered animals purchased off-ranch, you can enter dam and sire names manually from the paperwork.

Can HerdBook read vaccination records and registration paperwork?

Yes. Smart Document Intake lets you photograph or upload a document, then finds the matching animal — or suggests likely matches — and logs the health, vaccination, or registration details for you to review before saving.

Does HerdBook work on a phone in the pasture?

Yes. HerdBook runs in any mobile browser, handles iPhone HEIC photos, and reads capture dates from photo metadata so records land on the right day. Offline capture with sync is in build.

Can I share an animal's profile with a buyer?

Yes. Every animal has a private share link you can send to a buyer or vet, and ranches can publish a read-only public herd page listing available and nursing calves.

Can my whole ranch team use one account?

Yes. Invite owners, admins, and viewers to your ranch at no extra cost per seat. Each ranch's data is isolated from every other ranch on HerdBook.
